Joy Lampley Fortson, President - Joy began practicing law as a prosecutor with the City of Atlanta Solicitor's Office in 1997. Currently, Joy is an Assistant Chief Counsel with the Department of Homeland Security where she practices immigration law. In that capacity, Joy practices in Immigration Court and represents the federal government in the removal proceedings of illegal immigrants. Prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security in 2007, Joy was an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorneys Office in Atlanta, Georgia for six years. As an AUSA, she practiced in federal court where she prosecuted defendants in cases that ranged from white-collar crime to violent crime.
Joy joined GABWA in 1999 and became an active member in 2000. Since then, she has worked on numerous GABWA committees and events, including serving as the Scholarship Foundation Chair in 2005 - 2006. In addition to her commitment to GABWA, Joy is involved in the community. She sits on the Scottdale Child Development & Family Resource Center Board of Directors, was inducted into the Bleckly Inn of Court in 2005 and leads the Family Life Ministry at her church.
Joy graduated from the University of Florida in 1992 and earned her J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1996.
