WELCOME TO THE GABWA WEBSITE
GABWA is a bar association formed in 1981 to serve the needs and interests of black women attorneys.
We provide an informed and reliable voice through which the needs of black women lawyers and the black community at large may be articulated.
GABWA includes judges, law students, professors, deans, government and public interest lawyers, television stars, state bar attorneys, in-house attorneys from small, mid-sized and Fortune 500 corporations, solo/small firm lawyers, and large firm lawyers.
GABWA's mission statement is as follows: The Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys is a voluntary bar organization that nurtures, supports and galvanizes the power of Black women attorneys, advocates for women and children and empowers our communities.

PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
Thank you for visiting the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys' website. It is my hope that in doing so you will decide to join us this year as we continue our rich legacy of supporting Black women attorneys and serving women and children. Our 2008 theme is Women of GABWA: Balancing Our Lives to Empower Our Future. This year we will focus on the importance of daily seeking balance in our lives with respect to our careers, our marriages and relationships, our finances and our health. I firmly believe that when we invest time and energy in balancing different aspects of our lives, then we can lead more fulfilled, empowered lives in the future.
To that end, many of our meetings and events this year will encourage us to focus on balancing specific aspects of our lives. From General Body Meetings to Book Club Meetings to Community Service projects, you will be inspired to live a more balanced, fulfilled life. Please take a look at our 2008 Calendar of Events and decide today that you will get involved with GABWA this year. Furthermore, please decide to join GABWA today either online or by mailing your application. It will be a decision that you will not regret.
Although we will seek to balance and improve our lives this year, we will not focus only on ourselves. Consistent with GABWA's legacy of service, we will serve the community by way of preparing breakfast for women and children at homeless shelters, raising money for law student scholarships, mentoring teenage girls, raising money to fight AIDS and breast cancer, providing school supplies to children, and so much more.
On behalf of the 2008 GABWA Executive Board, I invite you to join us on this journey to enrich our lives and the lives of others in 2008.
Yours for GABWA,
Joy Lampley Fortson
2008 GABWA President
